Project “Entrepreneurs As Scientists: When and How Start-ups Benefit from A Scientific Approach to Decision Making”
Funding agency: MIUR (The Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research)
Principal investigators: Prof. Massimo G. Colombo (Politecnico di Milano) and Prof. Elisa Ughetto (Politecnico di Torino)
Years: 2019-2021
Amount: 197,584 Euros (Politecnico di Torino) and 196,630 Euros (Politecnico di Milano)
This project is funded by MIUR under the PRIN program 2017. The research project is coordinated by Bocconi University (National coordinator) and involves Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino as local units. The research activity at Politecnico di Torino and at Politecnico di Milano is aimed at studying the implications of a scientific approach to entrepreneurial decision making, by performing two Randomized Control Trials (RCTs) with entrepreneurs from high-growth start-ups operating in technology sectors. The first RCT targets about early stage start-ups, and the second RCT targets later stage start-ups. The project focuses on understanding the impact of a scientific approach on the decision of an entrepreneur to select/develop a business idea and on which contingencies influence the adoption of the scientific approach. The second RCT has a specific focus on entrepreneurial finance and aims at investigating what are the drivers that lead entrepreneurs to select the appropriate source of financing.
